While many frontline workers are still waiting to get their COVID-19 vaccine, the director of public relations for Erie Shores Healthcare got the vaccine this week, angering the leader of the local union that represents workers in long-term care homes.
The defeated president called for chaos and his supporters responded by storming the Capitol in Washington, disrupting the counting of electoral votes.
Insurrectionists made no effort to hide their intentions, but law enforcement protecting Congress was caught flat-footed.
Yesterday’s events were the expression of a dangerous authoritarian movement that has been long in the making.
The recently announced EU-China principally agreed investment deal is a watershed moment, marking a first EU-China investment deal of its kind that would open the doors for the EU to make direct investment in China. China will also have opportunities to expand its reach in the European market. While the deal would yield numerous benefits to the parties involved, it also has very visible geo-political strings attached to it, which involve not only the EU and China, but the U.S. as well. The EU-China deal is being seen in the U.S. both by the Trump administration (which is already in a state of ‘trade war’ with China) and the Biden administration as a set-back to their stated policy of following a ‘tough’ approach to China.

The farmers’ movement in India is making history as it is one the largest protests in the world. India is still a developing country. More than 65% of people depend on agriculture. Indian agriculture has been in crisis for a long time. Thousands of farmers commit suicide each year. This is not a profitable business. This is a way of life for their livelihood.
UE unequivocally condemns the violent attempts by a group of supporters of President Trump to disrupt the certification of the electoral college results in Washington, DC yesterday. This was an attempt by a small group of extremists to overturn a democratic election in which record numbers of U.S. citizens participated. This assault on democracy also threatened the safety of thousands of public employees who work in the capitol.
