A North York industrial bakery where five temp workers have died on the job used an elusive network of temporary help agencies to claim over $25 million in false tax deductions, according to the Canada Revenue Agency.
Fiera Foods, which describes itself as one of the continent’s leading pastry manufacturers, claimed millions of dollars in tax credits and business expense deductions for the temps that made up the majority of its workforce.
But tax authorities found the temp agencies supplying those workers had “no office locations, management nor administrative personnel,” according to court filings obtained by the Star.
