Rebuilding the economy will take an equally unprecedented effort. It is tempting to want to return to the status quo, and to think that a return to before would be a relief, but there were numerous crises raging before the pandemic took hold that will likely worsen if nothing is done. More than simply returning to what was, it is imperative that Canada redesign its economic programs, its social infrastructure and public services to build an inclusive, fairer and more resilient economy. Investing in workers’ shared prosperity, not in private profits, must be the government's objective.

Engel Falls Behind as Insurgent Wave Upends House Primaries in N.Y. - The New York Times

"Following the 2018 success of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, three progressive Democrats took commanding leads in their primaries. ... early returns seemed to confirm that the liberal wave that elected Ms. Ocasio-Cortez to Congress in 2018 has continued to build momentum. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez had faced a primary challenge herself but swept it aside easily, even as like-minded candidates — embracing her call for a Green New Deal and Medicaid for All, among other policies — showed electoral muscle. That strength was perhaps most evident in the 16th Congressional District, which includes parts of the Bronx and Westchester County, and where Mr. Bowman had a hefty lead over Mr. Engel, who was first elected there in 1988."
